Oi gente! O post de hoje vai ser um super-tutorial de perguntas para se fazer pra host family E também perguntas que elas podem te fazer. Isso claro, quando for conversar por skype/telefone ou até mesmo mandar mais perguntas por email. Vou colocar informações que fui coletando dentre vários blogs, e que a Suélen e a Francine me ajudaram a pegar tbm! Então agradeçam à elas, hahaha!

DICAS PARA UMA BOA LIGAÇÃO

1. Procure aquelas possiveis perguntas de Host family para a au pair.
2. Responda numa folha todas as perguntas, com respostas bem elaboradas em inglês.
3. Grife as palavras chaves das perguntas nessa folha e deixe de fácil acesso.
4. Carregue a folha na sua bolsa e deixe perto do tel caso a familia ligue de surpresa.
5. Pegue também as perguntas para fazer as host familys e quando você ver que tem
familia com seu app, você já personaliza as perguntas, tipo assim muda a pergunta para um jeito mais pessoal, coloca os nomes deles e já seleciona as perguntas certas, nem tudo que esta ali vc precisa perguntar pq tem coisa que eles já respondem sem nem vc perguntar.
6. Foque nas crianças primeiro e procure saber tudo delas, nos próximos contatos pergunte sobre coisas materiais se eles não falarem sobre isso.
7. Mantenha firmeza, mesmo com medo de falar algo errado, pq com segurança eles entendem tudo.
8. E se não entender peça pra falar devagar ou repetir.

Perguntas que a host family pode fazer:

Sobre você:
  • Do you have any allergies?
  • How is your health? Do you have any health issues?
  • Do you have a curfew now? What is it?
  • What does your family do during free time? Hobbies? Interests?
  • What your best qualities?
  • What are your worst qualities?
  • Have you ever been to USA before?
  • Are you familiar with American culture and family values?
  • Tell me what you usually do from the time that you wake up until the time that you go to sleep.
  • Do you plan your day in advance or do you like things to “just happen”?
  • Have you ever lived out of your home country before?
  • Can you adjust living with a foreign family and be a part of it?
  • Can you live apart from your family and friends?
  • Have you had any friends that have been au-pairs?
  • What did you study at school?
  • What type of job have you recently had?
  • How many years have you studied English?
  • Do you consider yourself a tidy or messy person? Would you have a problem joining a very messy or very neat household?
  • Would you and your family say that you are neat or untidy?
  • How much television do you watch?
  • How much time do you spend reading or doing other quiet activities?
  • What do you enjoy most about working with children?
  • Would you accept a family that has pets? Would you be willing to take the dog for walks or feed the dog?
  • If you are vegetarian, will you cook meat for the children?
  • Do you smoke? How often?
  • What type of relationship do you have with your family? How do they feel about you coming to USA for (placement duration)?
  • Would you be happy in the host family’s community, it may be isolated, a city, suburb, or rural. What type of area do you currently live in?
  • What type of household chores are expected of you in your home? Do you have to make dinner, wash the dinner plates, take out the rubbish bags etc?
  • Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? How do you feel about leaving them for 1 year or over. Are they going to want to visit you?
  • What type of hobbies do you have?
  • Do you like sports, travel, swimming, the beach, etc?
  • Do you understand what it’s like to spend 25 – 42 hours per week with young children? Have you ever cared for a child for an extended period of time?
  • Do you cook? What type of meal could you cook the children?
Sobre o au pair:
  • Why have you chosen to become an Au Pair?
  • What does being part of a family mean to you?
  • What childcare experience do you have? Have you baby sat for kids or worked in a camp or kindergarten?
  • Have you ever bathed or cooked meals for children?
  • What are the ages of the children you have cared for in the past?
  • What is your biggest concern about being an Au Pair?
  • What things are you most excited to do when you come to the US? What things would you like us to keep in mind?
  • What do you enjoy most about caring for children?
  • What is the hardest part about working with children for you?
  • What was your worst experience in child care, and how did you resolve it?
Pra quem vai cuidar de baby:
  • Do you know infant CPR?
  • Do you know about SIDS and how to prevent it?
  • Are you familiar with Shaken Baby Syndrome?
  • Can you tell if a room is childproofed?
  • How would you approach any problems or issues during your stay?
  • How would you handle _ (a specific problem such as: bedtime, meal struggles, jealousy, crying, a fussy baby)
Cuidados com as kids em geral:
  • How do you discipline children? How were you disciplined as a child?
  • How do you handle child tantrums (if child is not behaving or listening)?
  • Have you taken care of any sick children (cold/flu, stomach ache)? How did you care for the child?
  • What situations may make you uncomfortable regarding children?
  • Do you think of yourself as a supervisor, teacher, friend, or playmate when you are taking care of children? Why?
  • How can you help a child who cries when his mother leaves?
  • What do you do when a child refuses to go to sleep?
  • What kind of activities would you do with the kids?
  • Our children have playmates coming over to our house regularly. Do you mind having more children around some days?
  • What do you think your day will be like with the children?
  • What would you do with the kids on a day like today?
Driving experience:
  • How often do you drive?
  • Do you have a car now? What are your driving restrictions?
  • Have you ever driven an American automatic car? (Also, keep in mind that many au pairs are not accustomed to driving large minivans or sports utility vehicles)
  • Have you ever been in a car accident?
Perguntas para se fazer pra host family:

1. Ask about the children, their ages, what they like to do.
2. Ask about the climate, what types of activities are available in the area.
3. Has the family ever had an au pair before? If so, have they had an au pair from your country?
4. What type of area does the family live in?
5. What types of activities does the family participate in? What does the family do on weekends?
6. Do they like sports, movies, computers, etc?
7. Why has the family chosen to host an au pair?
8. Are there other au pairs in the area?
9. What type of clothes should you bring?
10. What type of jobs do the parents have? Where do the parents work?
11. What is a typical day like for the family?
12. What are your typical working hours?
13. Will you be asked to prepare meals for the kids? What type of food does the family eat? Would the family like you to prepare meals from your country?
14. Are there specific recipes you can learn to cook before you arrive? (A great idea is to prepare a recipe book or menu of meals you would be willing to cook for the children.)
15. Discuss: driving, weather conditions, how often you will need to drive. Will you be expected to drive the children to school and activities?
16. How do the children feel about a new au pair joining the family? Did the family have a good relationship with their last au pair?

Sobre as kids:
  • How many children are there?
  • What are their names?
  • How old are they?
  • What do they like to do?
  • Are they in the school? How far is the school?
  • How they go to school, by bus? Am I gonna be supposed to take them to school by car?
  • Se a criança for bebê: Is she/he walking and talking yet?
  • Are they energetic or calm kids?
  • What do they like to do in their free time?
  • Have the kids suffer from any kind of allergies?
  • Could we discuss any other useful information you think I ought to know about the children?
  • Please review with me some of your specific child safety rules, both for when we are at home and when out of the house.
  • What are their favorite games and toys?
  • What are their activities? (outdoor, indoor)
  • What do they usually eat? (for breakfast and lunch)
  • Am I be supposed to make dinner?
  • Do you follow a special diet?
  • Is there any kind of food that they don't eat?
  • Do the children nap? If so, when and for how long?
  • What time do they go to bed?
  • Which toys are the children permitted to bring to bed?
  • Can the kids go only to certain friends house?
  • Is there any game that the children are not allowed to play?
  • Are there some toys which require more strict supervision than others?
  • At what time do the children normally eat?
  • Do the children have any food allergies?
  • Do the children have a favorite food?
  • Please show me the procedures for bathing the children.
  • What temperature should the water be?
  • Please show me the full process of how you want me to change the baby.
  • Will I be responsible for any household duties? If so, which ones?
  • What kind of activities will you expect me to do with the children?
  • What will my schedule be like?
  • Please show me where you keep all the children’s clothes.
  • Please show me how to dress the children when going outside?
  • What will be my responsibilities with each kid?
Perguntas pessoais:
  • Will I have access to internet? In my room?
  • What will be my curfew?
  • What time can I get home during the week and on the weekends?
  • When I'll have free time?
  • Can I receive and make phone calls in your house?
  • Will I have time to study? What time? Can I study when the children are in the school?
  • Are there any English Schools near your house?
  • Could you please write down a clear list of things I will be responsible for?
  • Will I have permission to use the car? How often? How far?
  • Is a state driver's license required?
  • Are there only certain times when I can use the car?
  • Can I use the car in my free time?
  • Will I have to pay for the gas when I use the car?
Sobre os hosts:
  • What is your names? How old are you?
  • Do they both parents work?
  • Where do you work and what do you do?
  • Do you have any religion?
  • Why are you interested in getting an au Pair?
  • Have you ever had an au pair before? Is she living with you yet?
  • Would you mind if I ask you to talk to her or send her an e-mail?
  • What are your hobbies?
  • Do family members or relatives live nearby?
  • What qualities do you find important in an au Pair? What are you expecting from me?
  • What are the house's rules?
  • Could you please write them down for me on a separate piece of paper?
  • What are the family activities on the weekends?
  • How long have you lived in that state?
  • Where have you lived before?
  • Have you ever been to overseas? Did you like it?
  • Have you ever been to the country I am from?
Sobre a city/casa:
  • Where do you live? In which state?
  • Is it a small town?
  • Is it near a big city? Which one?
  • Is it too cold in the city? Snow there?
  • Do you live in house or apartment?
  • Do you have pets?
  • Do you have a housekeeper?
  • What about the au pair's bedroom, what part of the house is the bedroom located?
  • Will I have a private room, bathroom? Will I have TV in my room?
  • Are there other families with children nearby?
  • Are there any other au pairs in the area?
  • What things are there to do with the children?
  • Could you please give me a complete tour of the house and yard?
  • Could you please show me how to operate some of the appliances (the washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, stove, microwave, etc)?
  • Please show me where all the telephones are. Does 911 work from this area?
  • Could you please show me around the neighborhood/town?
  • Are there areas the children like to visit?
  • Where can I find public transportation and where does it go?
Para se perguntar pra atual au pair:
  • What do you think about the family? And the kids?
  • Are they nice with you?
  • Do you ever had an issue with your hosts?
  • Do they pay you weekly or per month?
  • They gave you a cellphone?
  • Do you do extra work? I mean, if you work for other people, take care of their kids or clean the garden from neighborhood?
  • Do you have many weekends off?
  • Do you do any course? If so, are the courses near from the house?
  • Is there any cool near place to go there?
  • Do you have more pictures of them, their home and your room to show me?
  • What do you most like to do in your free time?
  • What do you think they would like to receive as a gift?
  • And what you would like to receive as a gift?
  • How is the LCC? Is she helpful?
Dicas:

Can you speak slowly please?
Remember: the family's name and the date they would like you to fly to the United States

Depois que tiver família: Would you like me to take something from Brazil for you? What kind of things? Anything special?
